She e-mailed me a very detailed list (thank you oh so much Stephanie!) of what polishes I should try and quite a variety of colours from a variety of different brands. I was able to search through Nail Polish Canada to look at all of the colours and decided on 3 colours as well as a Flakie polish.
I placed this order on Saturday July 28 and it came in the mail Tuesday August 7 (with a Canadian long weekend in there ;)) so I'm really impressed with the speed of shipping :)
Here's what I got!
Everything was wrapped so well - each polish was in bubble wrap (OMG BUBBLE WRAP!) with little styrofoam peanuts to keep everything from shifting around during shipping.
First up - my very first OPI polish! This is Do You Think I'm Tex-y?, a pink jelly. I can't wait to try this one :)
Then we have my very first Nfu Oh polish! (Yep, I'm a polish-virgin!) This is JS31, a bright blue jelly! Now, with being new to the big-name polishes, I was distracted for a few minutes when I realized that the bottle was in the shape of a woman's dress. At first, I noticed that the top of the lid looks like a heart, but then as I was studying the bottle some more I realized "oh, those are boobs!" HAHA! So I had to take some extra pictures of the bottle because I live a sheltered life and have never seen a nail polish like this before :P
Then we have China Glaze Under the Boardwalk. I love this colour, it's a fuchsia-purple jelly polish. I love purples, so this is right up my alley :D
Finally, we have the ingredient that makes this a jelly sandwich -- the Flakie polish! I chose Essie Shine of the Times because I liked how it looked in the swatches I looked at :)
I love the rainbow in this Flakie :D It looks like it's going to be a well-used addition to my polish collection!
And, Nail Polish Canada included a little treat in with my shipment -- A LOLLIPOP! :D I LOVE sugar/sweets, so this is a nice surprise to find in with my nail polish :D
Ok, so here's what you've all been waiting for -- the jelly sandwich manicure! I started with Jordana Black as my base colour and then topped it with Essie Shine of the Times. I LOVE this Flakie! I can't wait to try it over white, and other colours as well :D
Ooooh eeeee! Look at that fire! :D
Then I topped that off with OPI Do You Think I'm Tex-y?. It takes the green colour out of Shine of the Times and makes it more of a gold to purple holographic. I tried doing a gradient top with OPI Do You Think I'm Tex-y?, Nfu Oh JS31 and China Glaze Under the Boardwalk (all the colours I ordered for this jelly sandwich) but it didn't look right, it's going to take some practice to get it right :) I will definitely do another post later on when I master the gradient jelly sandwich :)
If you are interested in trying this manicure for yourself, here is Stephanie's tutorial -- take a look! If you give it a try, share it on my Facebook page and Stephanie's Facebook page and tell her I sent you ;)
That looks great! I haven't tried jelly sandwiches, I should get around to that.
ReplyDeleteOoh you need to check out Nfu Oh's flakies- they're to DIE for. They make Shine of the times look weak. I have a bunch of them, and love them like crazy.
Thanks Pony! With being new to the big brand names, I didn't know quality of anything (though I guess I shouldn't doubt :P) but I have a few Essie products so I figured I would start with that :) Thanks for the recommendation -- I will keep it in mind for when I place another Nail Polish Canada order :D
DeleteJust be sure to Google for swatches with the Nfu Oh flakies- they aren't all created equal. I have these: 39, 45, 51, 52, 54, 56, 60, 65, (linear holo) and GS-14, which is black with coarse holo glitter. All of those are good ones. :D
DeleteAnd no, it isn't a bad thing to doubt- there are a lot of products that are not all they're cracked up to be. I always research a brand before I jump in. Thank goodness for all you beauty/nail bloggers with the swatches and reviews! :)
That is so awesome, thank you for your follow-up! I will definitely keep those polishes in the back of my mind when looking for more holos :D
DeleteI will be getting Girly Bits' Hocus Pocus in the mail shorty, so keep an eye out for my post with it. It turnes EVERYTHING holo :D So excited to get it!
Gorgeous!!! And what an amazing haul!!! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Ashesela! It doesn't take long for the polishes to add up :) I can't wait to try the jelly sandwich out with other colours :)
DeleteI LOVE jelly sandwiches! I had a hard time finding the right polishes as well. YOurs look pretty! I to love how fast Canada polish is. I made an order on Tuesday and when you spend over 25$, you get free shipping so I choose the fastest one possible and it was at my door THE NEXT DAY!!!! I got a lollipop as well. I didnt lasts 2 times... I love NFU OH polishes. I have some holo and flakie one but I like the look of your jelly. I would love to see some swatches of it. May have to get one myself... And that Essie is great for jelly manis. I didnt think of it. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI think they look really cool, and I would love to master the gradient jelly sandwich that Stephanie at Sincerely Stephanie has on her blog.
DeleteAnd yeah, Nail Polish Canada is great at getting orders out fast, and I LOVE their $25+ order = free shipping :D
I have heard that Essie is discontinuing Shine of the Times so if you want it, make sure you get it before it's too late :)
ps> hope youre not too annoyed with all the commenting I am doing in just one night. Hope you dont get bombarded with notifications from just me!! I just cant help myself. Once I get started looking I cant stop.......:) Where in Canada are you?
ReplyDeleteNah, no worries about the multiple comments! I love reading them all and it makes me feel good when I see loads of comments every day :D Means people are reading what I write and love it enough to comment :D
DeleteAnd I am in South-Central Ontario, south of Barrie.
I was skeptical about Essie Shine of the Times but think I need this one now too. You're killing me with these gorgeous swatches, old and new!!
ReplyDeleteIf you see it, get it :) It's my only flakie and I really love it :) I like the "fire" it has in the light :D I still haven't tried it over white. When I am on my No Buy New Year's Resolution I will be trying out stuff like that :)
