Swatch-It-Up-Saturday Sep 21

What a dreary morning - looks like a perfect day for doing lots of swatches while Tyler is working :)

Another week over, and lots of swatches to show you from the past week, so let's get to it, shall we?

This is 2 really easy coats of Avon Gunmetal.  This polish applied like a dream, like all Avon polishes.  It could have been a one-coater, but I put on the second for good measure and to make sure everything was even.  The name Gunmetal describes this polish perfectly, it's a dark charcoal grey with a glowy shimmer that makes it not too dark or vampy!

This is 2 coats of Deborah Lippmann Naked.  I got this polish out of the Travelling Polish Swap Box that I have participated in twice.  This is my very first Deborah Lippmann polish, and I was a little disappointed in the colour.  It's a perfect nude colour, almost too perfect for my skin tone, but it makes a great base colour for glitters or nail art.  It's a little on the thin side, so I would say if you didn't want to see the visible nail line that a third coat would be required.

This is 3 thin coats of Dollish Polish Who Lives in a Pineapple Under the Sea?  This is a gorgeous polish, and is part of Dollish Polish's cartoon collection.  The thing that drew me to this polish was the red "Patrick" star glitters, but they are a pain to get out of the bottle!  I only managed to get 2 out in a 3 coat mani on all 10 nails.  I understand that the larger the glitter, the harder it is to get out of the bottle, but when I saw the swatch photos (and I don't believe that this is 2 coats of just Who Lives in a Pineapple Under the Sea? because it's not that opaque on its own!) and the shop listing for this polish before buying it, I thought that there would be lots in the bottle.  This is the only disappointment I have with the polish.  The other glitters are fairly readily available in the polish, and the white jelly base, which has the same consistency as Essie Marshmallow, has a gorgeous blue shimmer to it.  This and all other Dollish Polish polishes can be found on the Dollish Polish site.

This is 3 coats of Ninja Polish Pinkerbell.  I have had this polish forever, and it has been in and out of my "to swap/sell" pile a few times, but I just can't bring myself to get rid of it.  I'm glad I didn't before I at least tried it.  This is a great polish if you love the matte micro glitters like this, or any of the other Floam polishes.  This is loaded with blue, yellow and pink micro glitters that does take 3-4 coats to cover the nail completely.  This polish also leaves a texture, so you will need a layer or 2 of top coat if you want a smooth finish.  The trick to this if you want to wear it on its own is to make sure each layer is completely dry before applying the next.  I didn't wait long enough between the second and third coats and a couple of my nails needed touched up before I took the pictures (I took the pictures the day after I polished).  This, and the other Floam polishes (formerly by Nail Venturous Polish) can be found on the Ninja Polish site.

This is 1 dabbed-on coat of piCture pOlish Gene Doll.  I really love this glitter!  It's a perfect shade of purple/magenta with tiny glitters and small hex glitters in a clear base.  I layered this over Deborah Lippmann Naked so that it was really showcased against a nude background :)  One thing I noticed, and loved, about the piCture pOlish polish brush is that it's clear!  That means that you can see exactly where the glitters are on the brush to help with the application.  If for no other reason, that alone would be my reason to continue buying piCture pOlish glitter polishes.  I hate when I go to apply a glitter polish, especially ones with black glitters, and the brushes are black so you can't tell where the glitters are until you put it on the nail.

This is 2 SUPER easy coats of Ruby White Tips Boo2 from the Batworld collection.  I thought it was a one-coater, because it covered the nail completely in one coat, but the second coat really brings out the purple tones in the polish.  This is a GORGEOUS polish and is now in my top 3 favourite purple polishes, it's STUNNING!  It has a blurple base and shimmers to a pinkish-purple where the light hits the nail.  There is also a gorgeous scattered holo glitter throughout.  This one does need a top coat though because it dries a little matte and rough to the touch.  Ruby White Tips polish can be purchased on the online store.

Indoor
This is 3 buttery coats of Ruby Wing Birdie.  I was going to leave it at 2 coats because I was going to do my Yin Yang mani over it, but then I remembered that I was going to do a swatch picture before the nail art, so I did the third coat.  I would do 3 coats if I was wearing it on its own.  This is another polish I have had for almost a year that I haven't tried yet (bad llama!) and I wish I had've tried it sooner.  Ruby Wing makes all of their polishes so that they change colour when they are exposed to UV light/sunlight.  Check out the outside colour of this polish!
Outdoor
It goes from buttery yellow to vibrant orange in the sunlight.  I picked the cloudiest day of the week to try this, so I ended up sticking my hand into my UV gel polish lamp to bring out the true outside colour of this polish.  The next picture shows the most amount of change I could get by standing outside.

And there we have the colours from this week!  I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!  I'm going to be working on some more swatching today to see if I can start to see a dim light at the end of the tunnel I call my polish stash... :)

    1. You should try one, they are so fun!! And yep, I was kind of disappointed that I couldn't get many stars out of the bottle, but I still love the look of it otherwise :D
